Service Description
This course will be held on the Rec Section of the Rogue or the Smith, water level dependent. The Whitewater Rescue Technician – Professional course is designed for professional river users, eg raft guides, safety kayakers, with existing river experience, to provide you with the necessary skills to perform rescues in whitewater river situations. Prerequisites: River Professional (Raft Guide, Safety Kayaker, etc) Prior river experience Must be a confident swimmer Minimum age: 18 Qualification valid for 3 years Assessed elements of the course are: Whitewater Swimming techniques Throwbags Boat Rescue Skills Knots and anchor systems Tensioning systems and mechanical advantage THEORY TOPICS: Rescue 3 philosophy Training standards Best practice guidelines River hydrology and hazards Personal equipment Technical and group equipment River running considerations Assessing risk Managing an incident Medical considerations Night/ poor visibility considerations Introduction to searching rivers Communications PRACTICAL TOPICS Whitewater Swimming techniques Strainer Swim Conditional rescues- throw bags Shallow water techniques Foot/ body entrapments Knots and anchor systems Tensioning systems and mechanical advantage Tethered rescues Line crossing methods Tensioned diagonals/ zip lines Flips, rights and crew/client recovery (optional) Boat pins and wraps Tethered boat techniques Victim/ casualty management Belay systems Boat on a highline (optional) Scenarios This course will include a special expert guest instructor, Mark Hirst of Lapin Koskikoulu & Rescue 3 International. This course includes free camping.

Cancellation notices received: -30 days or more before your class or course are eligible for a full refund. -8 to 29 days before your class, 50% refund of your deposit or transfer/deferral of your deposit in full to a different class. -7 days or less before a class or course will not be refunded, but the class or course deposit may be transferred towards a future class or course. -No shows will not be eligible for a refund or transfer.
