Service Description

This is a 5 day American Canoe Association SWR Instructor Certification Workshop (ICW) which includes an Instructor Development Workshop (IDW) & Instructor Certification Examination (ICE). Join Instructor Trainer Nicole Smedegaard in southern Oregon. Boats, shuttles, lunch and free camping is included. Participants provide all their own PPE (dry suit, PFD, etc). Candidates may bring a watercraft of choice outside of the rafts and IKs provided. The venue will be on the Smith and Illinois Rivers, flow dependent. Participation does not guarantee certification at an L4 level. An Instructor Candidate may be certified, certified at a lower level, or may be "continued" and asked to complete additional work before certification. L3, L2 and L1 Awards are also available through this course. Successful L4 candidates have previous teaching experience, extensive knowledge of technical rescue and many years of whitewater boating experience and will use the 3 days of Development training to sharpen skills, try new teaching techniques, and align with current industry standards. The last two days are the Exam and Candidates will teach lessons and demonstrate personal skills. If you have questions about standards for each level, please contact me to chat before registering. A $100 online deposit is due at the time of registration and the remaining $400 is due by the beginning of class. General Requirements: Fundamentally, it is expected that participants should possess the paddling skills, technical knowledge, rescue ability, teaching ability, group management, and interpersonal skills commensurate with this level of certification prior to presenting themselves for evaluation as Instructor Candidates. Participants must demonstrate knowledge and ability to efficiently/effectively plan and implement appropriate instructional sessions and assessments for different learning styles and ability levels. Prerequisites: ○ Completion of a Swift Water Rescue class in the last 3 years ○ Be an ACA member ○ Have and maintain First Aid and age-appropriate CPR ○ Upon successful completion, register with the Safety Education & Instruction Council This course is also open to mock students (max of 6), please contact me if interested. This course also meets the standards for an Instructor Update, prior permission required.
